Blake covers here in Germany the “Joy” issue (July) and I made scans of it, I also translated the german interview in english, so if you post it elsewhere please credit us – it took me very long
. Some random magazines/clippings have been as well added to the gallery – you can view them right here!
Blake Lively appears for the interview in the “Ritz Carlton Hotel” in San Francisco in a dark blue dress by the romanian designer Yoana Baraschi, who stocks as well celebrities like Heidi Klum and Sienna Miller. Her sense for fashion runs in the blood of the 23-year-old, not accidentally she celebrated her breakthrough as a scandalous fashionista in the TV-series “Gossip Girl”. But even on the big screen she knows how to convince – “The Town” co-star Ben Affleck raved: “I bet that Blake wins soon an Oscar.” Not a big surprise, as the blonde is having everything you need for a big triumph: great appearance, talent and humour. Although Blake looks perfectly dressed from head to toe, she’s having a very natural aura. The actress who was raised in California and with the star sign Virgo is laughing a lot and very contagious. But if it comes up to the business Blake gets serious, because that’s something she knows a lot about. As the youngest kid of 5 children, a father who’s a filmmaker and a mother who’s an acting teacher she was well teached from an early age how the Hollywood business exactly works.
JOY: Coming up next you’re going to play in the superhero movie “Green Lantern” a tough pilot. Why don’t you ever shoot a romantic comedy?
I’m always looking for roles that doesn’t have to do anything at all with the Upper-East-Side-Student I’m playing in “Gossip Girl.” That’s something what drives my agents crazy about [laughs]. Cause actually I get lots of offerings for comedy roles. But I don’t feel like playing them, I just really like to take risks when it comes to a film role.
JOY: Halle Berry or Charlize Theron are always groaning, because it’s hard getting a role where you’re “ugly”. Are you familiar with that problem?
Absolutely! I had to fight very hard to get the role of Carol Ferris in “Green Lantern.” At the casting they were like: “You’re having a pretty face, but are you sure that you can play also a powerwoman?” I wanted to show everyone that I can also play roles like that, which is why I worked on myself very hard in the forefront. It was definitely the most body exhausting role I ever played.
JOY: What was the stressful part of it?
During the week I was everyday in front of the camera in New York for the fourth season “Gossip Girl” and at the weekends I was in Louisiana to film “Green Lantern”. In the meantime I exercised myself in the weight room, just to get fit for “Green Lantern.”
JOY: Is it true that your relationship with Penn Badgley broke up, because of less time?
I’d lie, if I would say that the long “Gossip Girl-” shoots over 16 hours a day and my film roles don’t have any effect of my private life. You need time for love – above all togetherness, which we often missed. But we know each other since our childhood and we will always be good friends.
JOY: According to some rumours you lately dated Ryan Gosling and co-star Ryan Reynolds. What’s that all about?
Both Ryan’s are just very good friends of mine.
JOY: How should your dream guy be like?
He should have a soft core and should be down to earth. I don’t like those bad boys or masculine drama queens – a relationship should be relaxed!
JOY: How do you relax after a long, exhausting workday?
I’m taking every now and then a little time-out. Away back I traveled on my own across India and Thailand. Next time I’d really like to fly to New Zealand or China. Cooking is also something that gets me relaxed, more than ever when I eat my own creations [laughs].
JOY: In that case, what are you doing to stay in a good shape?
I’m mindful of what I eat and I do lots of sport. But every now and then you just need to grant youself billions of calories. My family comes from southern, where you mostly get deep-fried food. Food has always been an important ritual to us. Once a month I’m trying to make a big dinner, so I can invite my friends or family.
JOY: Your whole family is in the showbiz. Was that the reason why you became an actress?
I actually always wanted to defy that family trend. I wanted to study medicine. Admittedly, I played a minor part in a movie of my father when I was eleven, but just for fun. My brother Eric notified me secretely at an agency and just before my highschool graduation I got a call that I should play in the movie “The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants.” Shooting this movie made lots of fun and shortly after I got the “Gossip Girl” role offer. Ever after I’m officially an actress.
JOY: And alongside a fashion icon. How was your reaction, when Karl Lagerfeld booked you as the first american girl for a chanel campaign?
I couldn’t believe it. Karl is to me the most amazing living designer. He took photos of me for the Chanel-Mademoiselle-Handbag-Campaign on his own – in the former parisian apartment of Coco Chanel. It’s like a big dream for a girl like me who loves fashion a lot.
JOY: On photos you always look totally perfect. Do you look like that in your private life too?
In my freetime I rather follow my own fashion sense, than following any style trends. I’m always taking pictures of a combo I do like and after that I look for similar pieces. Most of the time I’m mixing different styles. Fashion means fun, which is why I always dress myself the way I feel.
JOY: Do you feel like big events are stressful?
Quite the opposite. I enjoy wearing there the newest collections and getting designer clothes for free. Fashion is just a very big hobby to me!
JOY: How many dresses do you have in your wardrobe?
Good God! By now there should be something around 450. To say nothing of my round 150 handbags and 300 shoes. I slowly lose track of it [laughs].
